Character Profile: Revered Calendula of the Third Order

​Have you ever wondered what an author had in mind when they created your favorite characters? Well, if you've read my debut alt-Appalachian fantasy, Vessel: Bonded Earth Book One, this is what I had in mind when I created Revered Calen of the Third Order! Did you picture her this way? If you haven't read it yet (what are you waiting for?!), allow me to introduce her.

Name: Revered Calendula

Age: 26 (born November 17, 595 post meteorum)

Birthplace: Tobins Hollow, Northern Drift Colony, The New Colonies

Occupation: As a Vessel of the Third Order, Calen is a ritual worker specializing in working her mana for seed blessings, and to a lesser extent, marriage unions.

Calen's life has never been easy, but since forming a working bond with an arrogant and power-hungry partner, Brother Stokely, it has become one of isolation and endured cruelty. When she learns of his plan for ultimate betrayal, she knows if she does not escape, it will be to her peril.

But nothing in The New Colonies is easy, and breaking free from Stokely proves to be no different. As it turns out, he is not alone in his quest to steal power from, and ultimately destroy, her and other mana-wielding Vessels. When she learns that he has found another to use, a young girl with special gifts, Calen must balance the scales between her need for freedom and her conviction to stop his heinous plan.
